2020 It is going to be bigger than Bridget Jones' Under-Grundies!   So it’s 2020... who wants a 2020 perspective: Clear vision, determination, challenge – all through fresh eyes? Look no further (pun absolutely intended) because Comedy Matters is brimming with all kinds of spectacular spectaculars to suit everyone. It’s a little longer than our usual newsletter, so put the kettle on (coffee – 1 sugar please) and pull up a chair for this month’s knee-wobbling news! Here’s this month’s round-up: Funny Women are coming to the Barnfield Theatre! (See dates and times below) Three, Two, One – Launch! Time of the Month in Exeter has Lift Off! Are you looking to explore and develop your stand up comedy skills? Funny Women’s Time of the Month is now launching in Exeter, and it’s a fantastic chance to begin your comedy journey at the city centre's Barnfield Theatre. The evening consists of two parts: Playtime (no jazz hands required) and Showtime... come to both or just perform. PLAYTIME: 6 – 7.15pm, £7  A great opportunity to connect with like-minded women in a safe space while you discover and build on your comedy prowess. You’ll be encouraged to generate new material through improvised comedy, writing strategies and editing your existing funnies. There will also be guest speakers/performers that will share insight, as well as one-to-one comedy advice and mentoring from Funny Women’s newest recruit, Maggie. SHOWTIME: 8.00pm - PWYW (FREE to Playtimers) Dates for your Diary: Tues 25 February Mon 23 March Tue 28 April Tues 26 May Mon 29 June Tue 28 July Tues 29 September Tues 27 October Tues 24 November Funny Women knows that comedy can be scary, so this night provides a platform for women to get on stage and perform comedy for the first time. Even if you’re already a regular on the circuit, Time of the Month is a great night to try out new material in front of a warm and supportive audience, and network with women. Exmouth Sundowners 6 week Stand Up comedy workshop has has already started, but if you have missed out and still have a burning desire to join in - message Maggie. Exmouth future workshop: 6 May – 17 June 7-9.15pm – Tickets can be purchased here... Our NEW Advanced Workshop begins next week: Mon 27 January – 7-9.15pm at Cafe55; it is in the heart of Exeter and very easy to get to. You’ll be able to flex comedy skills already gained – but take them one step further (or two, or five – or ten!) But you will have to be quick as it has almost SOLD OUT! Snooze and lose? EXETER STAND UP COMEDY WORKSHOP - MARCH There is a new Exeter Comedy Writing and Performing Workshop coming to Cafe55, too – here is the date for your diary: 4 Mar – 15 April 7-9.15pm. Get your tickets here... TO WOMB IT MAY CONCERN - WOMEN'S COMEDY 2020s launch of To Womb it May Concern, hosted at the wonderful @exeterphoenix went off with a bang and SOLD OUT. Places for the next event – Sat 7 March 12-6pm - are going fast, and, because it is in support of International Women’s Day it promises to be an explosive experience full of creativity, laughter, and support from like-minded women. CORNWALL COMEDY EXPERIENCE Fancy a weekend treat over the border? At Truro’s Old Bakery Studios, Maggie is offering a CRACKING weekend workshop with an evening showcase performance.
