Stand-up comedy for the bold and those who wish to be bowled over!

Calling all aspiring comedians and comedy writers. It’s a serious business being funny, and writing comedy to sound off-the-cuff can take hours of work. Join Maggie Irving to share observations, craft material and even develop performance in a fun and supportive environment. Maggie discovered her anarchic ‘inner clown’ at Plymouth University. Realising that too few women appeared in the clown canon, she researched the female clown for her PhD, and now teaches comedy skills as a modus operandi for breaking down barriers in all aspects of life and work. A chance for adults and children to get together and experiment with different comedy styles - physical and verbal - with the intention of getting a laugh. Try out a number of techniques, including finding funny words, funny sounds and using expressive actions to get you to stand up to stand out! There’s no pressure to be comical, just a chance to have a go at expressing your quirky or serious side and your unique point of view on a number of topics. Maggie Irving will be joined by cartoonist Harry Venning who’ll visualise the session as you go.
