Skillful Clowning: Physical and Funny

Actions speak louder than words...

Physical comedy speaks the unspeakable; it provides 'punch' in the state of silence; expression, emotion, attitude - context - there's so much power in a raised eyebrow.

Getting lost in the drama is only part of the process...  'clocking' the audience while in clown mode makes connections and comedy.

This Sunday (22 Sept) saw the first of Physical Comedy classes at Exeter's Phoenix Art Centre. Sunday became Funday... Everyone brought something to the table and we all learned from each other.

Here are some thoughts from the class, and some pics. These great photos are the work of Ellie Burgin - thanks Ellie :)

What did you like about the class?

'Not scary! Gentle build in expectation to perform.'

'Had a laugh and fun!'

'Friendly and encouraging.'

What will you take away and use?

'To use physicality more and work the audience -clocking, repeat for success.'

'A sense of physicality. To remember to use it in performance.'

'Confidence in using my body.'

A huge thanks to everyone who joined me, I look forward to seeing and working with you again,

Maggie
