Laughter, Love and Glue...

(Glue) Stick it to me... sounds rude!

Get the love, laughter and UHU glue effect.

But in actual fact, my point is that laughter is social glue – however we choose to use it. And we love people that make us laugh. Apparently the number one preferred trait when looking for a life partner isn’t their ability to dish up a Michelin Star big breakfast buffet or live in an apartment over-looking the Atlantic Ocean, but someone who shares their sense of humour.

We all want and need to laugh...

(And the big breakfast buffet? And the posh apartment? For me it's bowl of steaming bowl of porridge - yum yum.)

Humour is serious business!

So my work colleague came up to me and said... "Why did you put super glue on my stapler?"

And I said "You can't just let it go can you!"

Laughter keeps us connected – all to do with the release of dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. But what's interesting, is that when the effects of laughter die down and the feel-good feelings subside, we have to find more for the same effect - it's addictive - but with health benefits. Of course, we can't laugh 24/7, but we can create ways to 'top-up' the feel-good-factor when we feel we need to.

Having a toolkit of activities that create mirth easily, for free, and anywhere we are, can make a difference.

I have been putting a few tips on making mirth on my website
(grab your
Humour4health comedy tips here).

Here is a suggestion for February right now:

Buy yourself a Valentine’s Card, and write a message. For example, “You are my soulmate. Love you. BIG KISS X
” Or something more personal. Mail it to yourself. When it arrives, act excited and surprised. I know it sounds weird (haha), but doing something, which makes us giggle at how ridiculous it is, does work! (Confession: I did this once, and it was wonderfully exhilarating and amusing. I've still got the card.) It’s silly, fun and should make you smile - give it a go.

Happy VD – Valentine’s Day! ;)

P.S. trying to recreate Maggie as the muse for the glue stick, Danl cleverly decided to use one ear of her Springer Spaniel - Clover. Literally the 'hair of the dog' - ruff-ruff hahahaha...

A few thoughts:

Are writers always right?
Do horologists always keep their eye on the time?
Has a doctor always got their finger on the pulse?
Do priests always practice what they preach?

Feel free to follow the social media links and leave your own play on words - have fun!
