Building on Maggie Irving’s PhD thesis on feminist clowning, this is a chance for women to understand how clowning and comedy can support a feeling of freedom from social norms in order to build confidence and communication skills for professional and personal use.
What will we be doing?
We will engage in stimulating and playful exercises to help build relationships and allow people to be ‘seen and heard’
Be introduced to the concept of clowning for women through Maggie’s practice as research doctoral study on becoming a female/feminist clown
Create an understanding of the fundamentals of feeling free, ridiculous and open to express yourself
Building knowledge on using language and physical expression to create connections with others and generate laughter, including exaggeration, mime and mimicry
Telling our stories and sharing our unique points of view
Don’t worry –no pressure to be funny or have experience of comedy.
Dr Maggie Irving lecturer – writer – performer – researcher.
