It’s all in the seasoning...
Adding salt to a meal...
... is as enhancing and vital as bringing humour to the classroom.
I am prepping my annual talk and workshop for #Marjon University teacher
trainees on how well-judged humour can create connections and enhance
learning; and how a toolkit of comedy techniques can support wellness.
Laughing matters – it does!
Feedback from last year’s cohort:
“Now have more tools to use humour in
classroom.”
“I feel better now that I can think of
it as a skill that can be acquired rather than an innate quality.”
“Recognising humour as a pedagogical
tool / strategy.”
“Really enjoyed lecture and
learning/using humour.”
And some classroom 'toolkit' jokes...
What
is a math teachers favourite dessert? Pi.
I know, I know, it’s cheesy… (or
fruity?)
What do you do when no one laughs at your science jokes? Keep trying until you
get a reaction.
It’s tough teaching but a sprinkle of humour can create warm and
positive relationships, which make a huge difference to all. The
metaphorical 'meal' enhanced and dense in emotional / social nutrition.
If you know any organisation that might benefit from a similar talk from
a quintessential, professional 'seasoner', do let me know.
My online comedy writing classes also begin soon. Please join in –
comedy can make a difference to you – "Loved
the techniques. Maggie was lovely, relaxed and inspiring. Made me think”.
My first clowning class for adults is also taking place at
@exeterphoenix on Saturday 29 January – in a room. Again, a chance to build
skills and improve confidence and wellness. Lots to learn and enjoy.
ALSO
COMING SOON (February 2022 - fingers crossed): Chilled-out sessions of
Wednesday evening comedy workshops in Exmouth.Venue tbc.
Hope to see people come to classes in January – online and in a workshop studio
- Exeter Phoenix.
As usual, thanks to all… look forward to seeing some of you!
