No 'flippin' in February

But plenty of 'flippin' in March...

At this week’s comedy class we explored comedy around the theme of love, gifts and giving – tenuous links to Valentine’s Day and good ol' consumerism.

This February was a starting point for writing and we brainstormed key events of this month: more sunshine - well light (storm Eunice arrived today on the heels of storm Dudley); Valentine’s Day – all about a holy priest who back in 270 AD secretly married couples (‘cause they loved each other) only to be beheaded by Emperor Claudius II (or Claudius the Cruel) on the 14th and martyred as the patron saint of love. Hands up or heads up (not off) for a daily dose of love I say (and humour too!)

Also in February is a leap year – but not this year. This short month is a relief after the long month of January with its unfulfilled resolutions, blurred lines, temperamental weather and empty bank account.

At my class the material was fast flowing; rich, funny and idiosyncratic material including: Poor gift choices - a Dyson convector heater (sent back); wind; romantic food - for cats; Who Gives a Crap ethical loo paper - what was he thinking? Pretty pink pomanders... hmm; speedily supped sparkling wine; clawed tights and cookery books x 3! Acid and amusing letters of thanks and how an egg cup, a tea cosy, Vitamin D tablets saved various lives. I also found out that Pancake Day is in March and not February – flippin’ marvellous! More time to lose a bit of weight before I put it back on again!

Thanks everyone for the gift of laughter!

February also sees the start of my plans to revive my in-person workshops. Coming up are: monthly women stand up workshops and gigs; more stand up and clowning classes and new comedy and play sessions.

(see pic above) The first class at #exeterphoenix from 2022 – for the next one see below...

Another! CONTEMPORARY CLOWNING WORKSHOP @exeterphoenix and we cannot wait!

As usual, have a fab week and thanks from Maggie and the Comedy Matters team - cheers :)

Saturday the 26 March 10 - 4.30pm - a CHANCE to put clown to the test and explore freely, safely - and have fun!
