Beach, boobs and baying...
(IMAGE: Me as Baroness Elsa performing at Axis Arts Centre, Crewe as part of my doctoral research, baying at the moon.)
I boobed. I think.
On Tuesday, on Exmouth seafront, I was chatting – live – to a BBC Radio Devon reporter, about the upcoming heat wave. He asked me if I thought Exmouth beach looked like the Mediterranean. It was early morning. The sea was cold and calm; the beach awash with walkers and scavenging gulls, and the aroma of fried bacon wafted into my flaring nostrils, from nearby cafes. I said what I saw, “Yes, dogs, seagulls and,” before I said more, he interjected, “You didn’t say the obvious, sea, sand and ….” I laughed and replied, “Yes! I saved you!”
Sorry, Exmouth. What should I have said? “Sea, sand and semi-retirees?
Sea, sand and secretions? Sea, sand and survivors? Sea, sand and sizzling
sausages? What would you have said?
Moon hunt...
Last night, I went hunting for a full moon at 10pm (the one in the sky -
ooh er!) But there were only the remnant of Tuesday evening's spectacular
blood-red sunset. It rested on the horizon over sleeping boats, chinking
glasses and birds fornicating - yes the pigeons are at it again.
And the moon?
It was more of a bear hunt (ref Michael Rosen).
Well I couldn't see the moon because it was cloudy. Borrowing from The
Bear Hunt, I didn't go over it; I might have gone under it - who knows, but I
hoped to see through it, when it was lower in the sky, at 3am. I didn't wake up
on this occasion. Barely surprising!
Did any of you manage a wee glance?
In my PhD on becoming a female clown, I discuss madness as being a
possible signifier of women clowning – looking and being unsocialised.
If you would like a little more freedom to play and feel liberated,
without any odd looks, verbal judgments or stifled (unkind) giggles (only
the mutual, welcoming kind) look out for my forthcoming classes. Hopefully, you
will bay with the wolves and howl with laughter.
As usual, big thanks
and love from Maggie and the Comedy Matters team :)
