2021 will be BUSINESS as... unusual?
2021 will be BUSINESS as... unusual?
I have had several requests to provide fun and laughter sessions at business and networking
meetings, and I said yes, of course!
They range from 10 minute to 30 minute sessions that will
invite people to connect and get laughing; one meeting includes our very
own and local, #DevonChamberofCommerce.
We all want and need to laugh...
It’s serious!
BUSINESS this year has been exciting
for me (and a little challenging here and there). Being a clown and comedy
improviser has helped markedly with the various surprises 2020 has unleashed, and my sense of humour has kept me buoyed-up on the
whole.
It's great to be involved with organisations wishing to learn how and why
comedy can really 'put humour to work' for them.
But the thing is - there is a serious business element to this; whilst
the participants are taking part, they will be introduced to my philosophy
about business, playfulness and laughter, and why comedy skills and techniques
can encourage and consolidate team-bonding as well as increase productivity and
creativity.
Well, tbh this has been said by others, but this will be my own twist
- have you ever been 'Maggie'd? (A term that
some have used to define my impact on their lives)
Introducing fun to business & networking
meetings can have a lasting impact, and the great thing about this is the same
can be applied across all walks of life, too.
And finally...
A round-up of this month's superb
COMEDY CHARACTER CLASS
- and what a knockout it was!
My creating comedy characters class finished a few nights ago. I shall miss the laughs from a fab bunch of flawed characters, with their strange traits and quirks and exaggerated features – and that was just the class members! I jest. Honest!
It was a short course this time but it was great to gain insight from the feedback that people ‘learnt loads’, had ‘good fun’ and will take pleasure in applying their new/improved skills of creating comedy characters to their stand up comedy performances.
In addition to the feedback that linked performing and creating characters, there was a big boom in self-assurance and one participant remarked that people at work and home had noticed a change in their confidence and funniness. Brilliant. And also, I hope the company hires the person who filled out part of their job application form, recently, with: ‘attending a comedy character class’ – so wonderful to see others taking what they have learned and literally rocking life! Yes, there are plenty of transferable skills with this work: improvising, creative thinking, risk taking, self-expression, dynamic communication, increased confidence and a sense of humour!
As with all learning, the skills build up week on week, and everyone ramped up exaggeration and the stakes last night, which resulted in so many of laugh out loud moments
An ENORMOUS thank you: Norman Parr-Median, Ribert. Shorten To The Point. Ahmed, Hattie - you all know who you are ;)
As usual, thank you to all, for support... 2020 is nearly gone - and
you've all been fab!
Maggie and the Comedy Matters team :)
