HUMOUR!

Would you like a serious dose of it?

Humour is neither healthy or unhealthy - it really depends on how we use it, especially in everyday life. Sarcasm, for example, can be damaging and offensive. Banter too, although these forms of humour can create bonds, produce laughter and raise spirits. It's not simple.

A belly laugh or smile can be a tincture, a plaster, a remedy - or an amusing therapy in a safe space. It can also be highly cathartic.

Despite my often naughty sense of humour, sometimes attacking politicians - no need to name him/them... I also use it to heal. My continuing focus is teaching people the art of using humour that has the greatest personal and group health benefits. That doesn’t mean to say that rants, sarcasm, satire, parody are discouraged. Again, it depends on the purpose and the target of the humour. For instance, a little self-deprecation is OK, but too much ain’t great, so go easy.

Over the past 12 years, I have worked with GPs, doctors, business leaders, teachers, accountants, vulnerable adults, students, performers, poets, singers and many more. They have all benefited from Dr Maggie’s doseofhumourtreatment.com - website on its way!

Do you think you could write a joke on almost anything? Deliver a speech that has enough humour to bond you to your listeners? Add a dash of appropriate humour in a classroom or consultation room, or find the funny in disappointment, annoyance or tragedy?

Get in touch, if you feel you or your organisation would benefit from a positive, restorative, antidotal dose of humour.

Or just have a play and see what you can come up with, even if it’s just for your own amusement!

As usual, big thanks and love from Maggie and the Comedy Matters team :)
